2020 Anaesthetist Preoperative Assessment

Oh what a year.. Normally at the start of these yearly review posts, I say ‘what a great year’ and ‘what a perfect time to look back at the year’ but I’m going to skip all that and just say Thank You.

Thank you for being a member, but most importantly, thank you for doing your job in this crazy uncertain year.

One silver lining of 2020 is the shift in the public perception of doctors – you are the frontline and society relies on you. Our survival relies on you. So Thank You for taking on that role, and dealing with that pressure.

You’re all very appreciated – but don’t just take my word for it, below are some of the lovely comments patients left after filling in your forms.

Every time a patient completes one of your preoperative assessment forms, they then have the option to leave feedback. For 2020 we had an amazing 6,557 patients complete the feedback form at the end of the questionnaire! (In 2019 we had 5,513)

The Ratings

98.26% = 6,443 people = Loved the site and found it easy
0.98% = 64 people = Thought the site was just OK or identified things we could improve
0.76% = 50 people = Didn’t like the site

The Trends

Of the 6,557 patients that left a rating, 1,172 took time to leave a detailed comment
552 people left the comment that they had no suggestions for improvement
177 people responded the form was ‘easy‘ and 60 responded ‘very easy‘
75 people responded ‘All good‘

This is a really great idea and giving a face to the doctor is really comforting.

Very good idea to fill out an online form prior to surgery!!! It helps us to remember things we might forget to mention on surgery day due to anxiety.

I am the mother of ##### and feel very confident in Dr D’Souza after he has made contact well before the day of surgery and now filling out this form to better inform him as his Anaesthetist. I am thoroughly impressed that an Anaesthetist actually makes contact with their patients before their surgery.

Well done and thank you. (This is no relation to my son Emerson) I recently had surgery myself and was very disappointed in the fact that i saw the Anaesthetist only 10-15 mins in the pre-op room. I knew nothing about him and that was it. By the sounds of it, you are offering a great service.

I appreciate the amount of information that was provided up front regarding fees etc. The process and fees at hospitals can often be vague so I found this information very valuable. The online form is also much better than filling out written forms on clipboard in a hospital/doctors reception area. Excellent.

I thought it was highly appropriate questioning; simple and easy to use; and the length of the questionnaire was just right (not too long or short). It’s good that the form also provided options to ‘add’ further documentation or administrative requirements for the specialist’s consideration – this would be highly appropriate and useful for those future patients with complex conditions which require more detailed explanation, or private issues not typically listed in ‘pre-operation’ questionnaires. Thankyou and hope my feedback has assisted yourselves.
