New ANZCA Paediatric PES

Last week, ANZCA launched a new Paediatric (Child) version of their Patient Experience Survey and Summary Report. The Paediatric and Adult versions of the PES Survey and Summary Report are now separate, and different from one another.

What does this mean for me?

To meet ANZCA’s requirements, you’ll now need either 15 paediatric PES responses or 15 adult responses. You’ll no longer be able to combine these responses in one Survey Report.. Updated: ANZCA has confirmed you are allowed to mix your 15 responses between two reports. Once you reach 15 (total) responses we will build your report(s).

What’s different about the Paediatric Patient Experience Survey?

The new paediatric PES includes some new questions, tailored to the age of the patient. The PES asks parents about the way in which they were treated and how effectively the anaesthetist communicated with the child. Also, it asks about the privacy they offered when talking to the parents and the child, and whether parents were updated about any complications during anaesthesia. Test the form here.

What do I need to do?

Absolutely nothing. We’ve made all the necessary changes for you. Members who use our Standard PES template will now find that we’ve incorporated the new paediatric version, too.

What about my existing PES responses?

We’ve asked ANZCA whether they will accept any mixed-age Summary Reports that our anaesthetists have already collated, and for how long. As soon as we receive their response, we’ll update this article to let you know.

Updated: We will combine your responses in multiple reports (if needed) to ensure you have the 15 required patient responses as needed by ANZCA. (ANZCA’s exact reply was: “In regards to the 15 surveys that are required to be collected to meet requirement for the Patient Experience survey activity of the ANZCA and FPM CPD program, each response is valid in itself and if it is a sample of real-time mixed practice that it is fine to use both the Patient Experience survey (Appendix 1A) and the Paediatric/patient satisfaction survey (Appendix 1AP).”)
